The Visiting International Professional Program (VIPP) at Michigan State University (MSU) is off to a good start for the Spring 2017 semester. VIPP classes commenced on January 17 and new students were invited to a welcome luncheon held on Friday, January 20.  Fifteen new participants joined VIPP early this semester and more are expected to arrive in Spring.

Dr. DeAndra Beck, Associate Dean of Research at International Studies and Programs (ISP) joined the luncheon to welcome new students to VIPP and MSU. Introducing MSU as a land-grant university, she emphasized MSU's global engagement and how VIPP plays a key role in contributing to it by bridging MSU to the world communities. She wished all participants a fun and productive year.

VIPP staff gave presentations introducing academic policy and VIPP communications to ensure participants meet certification requirements and stay connected with VIPP during their stay.

This year VIPP is introducing a yearbook where students can keep records of their activities and share American experiences with peers and VIPP by writing, drawing, or any creative ways they can think of. VIPP will keep the yearbook to remember our participants even after they leave us.

The VIPP 2017 Yearbook was introduced to participants at the orientation luncheon. This yearbook is for recording and sharing students' activities and thoughts about their American experiences here at MSU.

During welcome ceremony, new students also filled out "My Pledge." Students write down their professional and personal goals during their stay. Many students pledged to improve their English and expand their research. These will be shared on the yearbook and will serve as a reminder to stay focused. VIPP will help participants achieve their goals throughout the year by providing diverse opportunities to enhance their professional experiences.

VIPP welcomed the Class of 2017. More participants are expected to arrive in March.
